I recently did a direct mail for a photography business. I mailed 500 postcards to people that had over 80k for yearly income. I was curious what I should consider a decent respose for 500 mailed and how long I should wait before I consider a new marketing program or additional mailings?

I have 5,000 postcards I’d like send to my local town where my business is located. My question is what is the cheapest way for me to have these mailed out? I would need to obtain a mailing list for my town and the service required would be to have each card addressed individually and postage paid. Thank you!

I would first purchase a list so you get your message out to the right “target” people. I would then start by only sending out small batches at a time as to prevent getting potentially overwhelmed from the responses. This would also work best to keep your campaign targeted to certain zip codes or locations so you can better track your demographics. Ot to mention it would also be less expensive.

Those would be my first suggestions if you wanted a do-it-yourself, grassroots approach. Otherwise, I would say contact a direct mail company to have them handle the whole thing professionally. It is sometimes worth the money.

How do colleges and universities market to incoming (registered) freshmen and returning students over the course of the summer, i.e., at their non-campus addresses?
> Direct mail: What kinds of things are sent? Fornats (e.g. packages, letters or postcards) and contents/key messages (e.g., be sure to come to orientation…here’s your Campus Orientation Kit, etc.
> Email: What kinds of message are sent? Links provided to the college web site for additional detail? Is school email account used or student’s personal email account?
> Have you ever seen schools include advertising for local businesses (e.g., Bed & Bath, Pizza Hut) in any of their materials or in orientation handouts?

My sis gets email that tell her about new courses being offered and trips and stuff like that but they never had ads in them and also since the Virginia Tech tragedy they have her cell # so they can text her if anything bad happens on or by their campus
